“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

    Psalm 27: 1

What are you afraid of and why are you afraid of it? F.D.R once said, “The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself,” and he’s completely right. He implies that the thing we are afraid of isn’t what is inhibiting us from living, but the individual emotion of fear. As humans we are very emotive beings who tend to feed off the emotions of ourselves and others. How is it that we allow ourselves to experience something as paralyzing as “fear” when the God of the entire universe is here to protect us?

In Psalm 27 David proclaims that God is in complete control and has already triumphed over everything we could possibly fear! David is not questioning if God can, rather he is acknowledging that God will. In reading chapter 27 (which I highly recommend- only 14 verses by the way) you can feel the joy of David spilling over throughout the pages!

David recognizes that there are people, even armies, against him. He sees that people will leave him and try to cause him harm, yet he still does not fear. He never once wavers. David continually turns his face to God in confidence and refuses to give into fear.

In times we are fearful, we must remember to seek God. He will never hide from us, nor turn from us, nor forsake us, nor leave us. (This is straight from chapter 27, guys!!) How awesome is that? He’s like a lighthouse to a ship on a rocky sea. In the closing of the chapter David encourages us all to “be strong, take courage, and wait for the Lord” (verse 14). He sees our struggles and guides us through them all. Do not be discouraged or fearful if God doesn’t work things out in plain sight, for he works sometimes is ways that are beyond our comprehension. But how encouraging is it that he works all things for the good of those who love him and for his glory!

I encourage each and every one of you to read chapter 27 and find the verse that gives you the most strength. Know that God is ready to lead you home, all you have to do is look for the lighthouse.
