December Update: Missions

by Mike Niemi on December 01, 2019

Global Teams On the Move…

Our Uganda team just returned home after spending a week in Entebbe at Bethel Covenant College, a partnership we have had for many years in which we invest biblical truth into the students at BCC. Over the years we have covered topics such as discipleship and leadership as well as other practical skills with the students, all based on the truths of the Word of God. We have been fortunate in that over the lifetime of the partnership we have seen the spiritual growth and development of the students, many of whom have gone on to be influencers and disciple makers on campus and whom we pray will take the Gospel back to their villages, families, friends, and to the uttermost parts of the world!

Thanks for praying, giving, and sending our global teams MeadowBrook! Through your heart to engage the nations with the Gospel and your resources, we have been able to impact places this year with short term teams on the ground in Cuba, Costa Rica, Argentina, Uganda (both students at BCC and South Sudanese refugees living in Uganda), and the Middle East! This next year we will venture into a new country as we are headed into the Far East to Japan! The Lord continues to open up doors for partnerships with MeadowBrook. Thank you for your heart for the nations both abroad and here at home with the international students and community here in Gadsden!

Christmas Offerings

Each year in December we collect two main Christmas offerings that have to do with missional efforts supported by MeadowBrook. The first is the Open Hands Christmas Offering. This offering goes through the MeadowBrook United Appeal Fund directly to Open Hands for the support of the ministry. And the second is the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. The LMCO goes to support the global missionaries of the International Mission Board. Look for the envelopes for each offering in the backs of the chairs in the Worship Center as they are available now.

Worth Reading…

Here some books to consider adding to your collection this month…

“God’s Heart for the Nations” by Jeff Lewis

This 8 session study looks in depth at God’s Word and how the mission and purpose of God is to be the driving force of our lives. The study will connect passages of the Bible to the metanarrative (big story) of the Bible and ask you, the reader, questions to reflect on as you dig deep and see the mission and purpose of God and how it is communicated throughout the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation. You will also have an opportunity to reflect on the passages and pray for unreached people groups around the world. To purchase a copy of this highly recommended study you can click HERE

“Every Good Endeavor” by Timothy Keller

Do you ever feel like work is part of the curse of the fall? Well that is simply not true. Work is part of God’s perfect design in creation. But often in our experience, work does not satisfy or fulfill as intended nor do we view it biblically. What if the Lord designed work, not for us to just do something with our day and pay for stuff for our family or our pleasure, but as a means to join Him in His ultimate work? Pastor and author, Tim Keller, helps us to connect our work to God’s work in this book. He helps the reader to think biblically about the concept of work and how we ought to approach our work, no matter what career field we are in. To purchase a copy of this book you can click HERE

Ways you can engage this month…
  1. Give to the Open Hands Christmas Offering and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering as a way to support the missional efforts of MeadowBrook and our Gospel partners around the world.
  2. Be praying for your neighbors and co-workers or others in your circle of influence that do not know Jesus as Savior and Lord. Look for ways to spend time with them and opportunities to ask spiritual questions and share the Gospel.
  3. Pray for the work of ministry and missions that MeadowBrook engages in regularly throughout the year. Pray that the Lord will do what only He can do to save and transform individuals, families, and friends for His name’s sake.
