“Can you say THANK YOU?” How many times will a child be asked that question in their preschool years? We ask them again and again because we want to help them learn to be thankful. This month is all about saying thank you. Throughout the month, preschoolers will learn to be thankful for their family, friends, and food. And, they’ll learn that saying, “Thank you” is just as important as being thankful. We begin in week one thanking God for our families. Through the story of Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz we learn that going from no family to lots of family, makes us very thankful for our family. We will thank God for our friends in week two. Friends help us, encourage us, and make us laugh. We will read about two great friends, David and Jonathan, in the Bible. They cared for one another and even shared their things. During week three, we are going to thank God for our food. If we could talk to Moses and the Israelites as they ate their manna, they would be sure to remind us to always thankful for having choices and plenty to eat! Finally in week four, we are going to talk about simply saying, “THANK YOU” For everything. Even if we’re the only one, we want to be that one who remembers to say thank you. Just like the one leper who said thank you after Jesus had healed ten of them. This story reminds us that some people do not say thanks, so we need to choose to be the ones who do. Imagine our preschoolers learning to tell God THANK YOU for everything with their whole heart!
