Our Prayer and Passion: Salvation for All

Our Prayer and Passion: Salvation for All
1 Timothy 2:1-7

God desires people to be saved, so it must be our desire, too. The broadness of the gospel commission is evident in today’s text.

  • Pray for all people (v. 1)
  • God desires all people to be saved (v. 4)
  • Jesus Christ gave himself as a ransom for all (v. 6)

Prayer conditions and aligns our hearts with God and his purposes.

If you want to see more people come to salvation in Christ, pray. How do we develop a greater fervor for sharing the gospel? The first step is to pray. Paul said, first of all, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people.

Paul mentions four expressions of evangelistic prayer:

  1. Supplications – This is a prayer that arises from a sense of need, pleading for God to provide what is needed.
  2. Prayers – “Prayers” refers to speaking earnestly to the Lord. The word carries a unique element of worship and reverence.
  3. Intercessions – The root of the word means to get involved in someone’s life. Because we have God’s love within us, we won’t let people remain in their sin and hopelessness. So we intercede, calling out to the Lord to save them.
  4. Thanksgiving – A prayer of gratitude.

T I P S

Thanksgiving (Be grateful for saving grace.)

Intercessions (Get involved spiritually and relationally.)

Prayers (Commune with God, and long for others to worship and glorify him.)

Supplications (Ask God the Provider for their salvation.)

Pray specifically and broadly for the salvation of people.

Paul urges that we pray for all people. We must view people as eternal beings, knowing that they will spend eternity in heaven or hell. Understanding this moves us to pray and share (TIPS).

Our role is to pray and broadcast the gospel message to all people; it is God’s job to save them.

Christ transforms communities who hear and receive the gospel. That is a true statement, but it is exclusively true. Therefore, there is no transformation without the gospel. Without the gospel, people remain spiritually dead and desperately wicked. Without the gospel, they remain rebellious to God and disobedient to his commands. Without the gospel, God’s conviction and judgment are against them. Yet, he is for them and desires them to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. However, there is only one way for their salvation.

Antagonism against Christians is on the rise in the US, and it will continue unless our country experiences a gospel transformation.

One of the blessings of people being saved is that Christians can live peaceful and quiet lives, godly and dignified in every way. Such a life means that conditions will be favorable for us to live openly in expressions of worship and faith.

Let us clearly understand that the peaceful and quiet lives we long for will not come with political change. Such living comes when our nation experiences a spiritual awakening and is gloriously transformed through salvation in Jesus Christ. Pray for the salvation of all people.

Salvation is mediated and paid for by Jesus. (1 Timothy 2:5-6)

There is one God, and every person will stand before him in the future. But there is hope in Jesus, who is the mediator between sinful people and holy God.

Isn’t it gracious that God desires his salvation to be known by all people? Jesus is the God-man who brings God and mankind together by being the ransom for our salvation. The ransom paid by Jesus to God for the satisfaction of justice is sufficient for all who place their faith and life in him.

God appoints us to pray for and share faith and truth with all people.
