The Lord is Good: Taste and See Part 1

Psalms 34:1-22

The Lord is Good: Taste and See
Psalm 34, part 1

1 I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad.

3 Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!

4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. 5 Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. 6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. 7The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

9 Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack! 10 The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.  (Psalm 34:1-10 ESV)

What are the moments or seasons in your life when you felt overwhelmed?  David writes about such a season in life in Psalm 34.  He was a man downcast, overwhelmed by fear and in need of deliverance from affliction.  It is a great song of praise to the Lord who has answered him and delivered him.

The circumstance surrounding David was unique, but God’s response was not unique. The way God responded to David’s plea was in line with his character, and we can expect God to respond to us in the same ways.

God is attentive, compassionate, present, strong, and good.

Express your worship to God.

  • Be determined to bless the Lord (I will bless the Lord)
  • Praise God aloud continually (I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.)
  • Worship the Lord with your whole being.
  • Let your praise and worship impact others

Share your testimony about God.

David’s testimony of faith in God is in verse 4-7.  He was in a desperate place without the Lord’s intervention, filled with fear and desperation. In that state, he called out to the Lord, and the Lord answered him, delivered him from fear, and saved him from his troubles.

The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.(Psalm 34:7 ESV)

Call others to know, experience, and express the goodness of God.

David shared in the Psalm his knowledge of God, his experience with the Lord, and he expressed his praise and worship, but he also called on others to do the same.  3 Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together! 8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

Responding to God’s word:

Experience the salvation of the Lord

Encounter the deliverance of the Lord

Espouse the testimony of God’s goodness to others
